Specifically, I'm looking for a murder plan. The goal (for reasons too odd to mention here) is to find a murder plan that is public, not obvious (i.e. looks like an accident), and possibly preventable. This part of my story is still a bit murky. I'm not sure if it will even be used, but I still want to explore the idea before Nano starts so I can outline it a bit.

So, suggestions?

Well, there's always the old piano on the head trick (wardrobes work, but not as well)

Or, if you want to go for the really grim, contrive an accident that kills a lot of people, just to finish off one person - something like a train or plane crash, maybe? Guess you'd need a particularly callous murderer for that one, though.

Actually my character is a reluctant murderer. He feels that, due to circumstances, he cannot get any protection from the police and that he wil be killed if he doesn't kill first.

I've always appreciated the way Ken offs the old lady in "A Fish Called Wanda". The fact that it pains him to kill her poor dogs to kill HER makes it even better.

Maybe your character could deliberately (rather than unintentionally) do something like that.

Laughing I nearly suggested watching 'A fish Called Wanda' for tips, although Ken has a bad habit of missing his target - hence the dog pancakes!
